 The progress of the groups

To know the progress of the groups in both villages: Senaru and Sembalun Lawang, the CD staff monitors of the groups on monthly basis by visiting and interview the groups. If constraints or problem are found, these are discussed with the groups to find a solution. The progress of the groups as follows:

The groups in Senaru

·         Bamboo craft
The result of monitoring found out the constraints is to market the product. They prefer to work in individual as well, they just wait an order and it influences the number the product. Whereas the Rinjani Trek has set up system in place where the trekkers with the group should use basket to carry their thing in stuffs such as the food and the mineral water with aim to bring their rubbish down. But however the pilgrim does not want to follow the system using basket as they climb without porter. The group produces when they get an order so that need to encourage them to find out the market or bring the product to the market instead of waiting the order.

·         Snack making group (women group)
There are two groups with 10 people member of each, one is in Batu Koq and another one is in Klungkung. The condition of the group in Batu Koq still 10 people except 1 person change her business for while due to the price of the material is going up while Klungkung group the number of the participants drop out 3 people with unclear reason. The group's capability should be improved through training such as recording the income and the operating cost needed, they know how much income they make. Now the operating cost increases because the price of the material is going up. Both the group is monitored on monthly basis and encouraged to save some of their income in the Co-operative and both have their saving. The growth of the group saving is moderate and need to encourage to save on weekly basis. Some of the constraints are: some of the members work in the field on planting season so they could not join the group to work; some are lack of interest on this business and lack of understanding on business management. The solution is proposed; strengthening the group with providing training and continues assistance.

·         Cattle breeding
The growth of the cattle in general is good as well. On the monitoring the CD staff visits the group with the Co-operative on monthly basis to the progress of the growth and discusses the problem, and find out the solution. In this group they bought smaller cattle comparing to the group in Sembalun Lawang. The Co-operative RIC in Sembalun Lawang provided more contribution to the group so they could purchase bigger cattle. It is expected that the new group will be formed next year as well after receiving the calves from the group.

·         Retail business
To raise the profile of Rinjani RTMB printed the Climber Certificate that is developed as retail business for both Co-operatives and to sell to the trekkers. Some of the income from selling certificate returns to the RTMB to support for the next printing and some to support the operating cost for RTMB. It was printed the entrance tag that given to the trekkers, this is the way to increase their awareness, after they pay the entrance fee every one will get the entrance tag to be displayed on their bag.
